Literary Tours

LITERARY group holidays with the Groups Company appeal to those who like to combine their knowledge of, and interest in, authors of note, with a taste for travel. The itinerary may include visits to sites of literary interest, settings for plays or books. There may be readings from the works of famous authors at the location where they were born, lived, worked, or set their work. Your group may choose to include the services of an expert in the works of a particular author, someone who can brings their work alive, or you may decide simply to have the travel arrangements put in place with the group arranging their own readings.

Whether the group travel with an expert or not is up to you. You and your group choose the style of literary holiday that you want.

We operate Literary Tours to the following destinations:-
Cuba, Turkey, India, Jordan, Italy & Greece

A typical day..
After a leisurely breakfast a short drive brings us to the location of this morning’s visit. This may be the home of a famous author, or a setting made famous in a particular novel. Quite often the group tour will be designed around an interest in a particular genre, a particular literary era, or to follow in the footsteps of a famous author. The morning visit may include a talk from the resident literary expert accompanying the group, if you have chosen to include such a professional. After lunch another visit takes us through the afternoon. In the early evening you may wish to include a talk from your literary expert or a discussion about tomorrow’s visits, before a pleasant dinner rounds off the day.

Whether at the locations of the day’s visits, or in the early evening, readings of relevant works may add an additional dimension to the itinerary. These readings may be provided by your literary expert, or simply read by members of the group.

If you choose to plan an itinerary that sees you travelling from one location to another, then half of the day may be spent driving, so only one visit takes place on days when the group is moving on.

Whether you include an expert on the subject that forms the theme for your holiday, or whether literary readings are done by the group is your choice. You and your group decide the style of literary holiday you want.

Sample itineraries ...
The itineraries below are intended only to give an indication of what might be possible in a particular country, following an itinerary catering for a particular special interest.
 .
No details of meals or accommodation are included in the itineraries as it would be your decision, at the planning stage, as to what is included. You would decide whether your tour included all meals, just Bed and Breakfast, or Bed and Breakfast plus some lunches or dinners at certain points on the itinerary. Similarly you would decide what standard of accommodation you wanted to use.

The itineraries detailed are deliberately short ones. It is intended to give a flavour, an outline, of an itinerary.  If you have more time, then extra time can be built into each stop on the itinerary, and additional places of interest and overnight stops can be added. Lengthening the itinerary, to 10 days or two weeks, for example, and adding further night-stops will enrich your journey; shown below is just a brief skeletal itinerary as a basis for discussion and more detailed planning.

  • Cuba - 8 days (to follow shortly)
  • Jordan - 8 days (to follow shortly)
