Group tour at Ephesus, TurkeyARCHAEOLOGICAL TOURS with the Groups Company appeal to two kinds of traveller –  Some like to travel with a Tour Manager and a highly qualified lecturer to give talks each evening; spending lengthy periods of time at each site (perhaps a day or a half day) and expecting all group members to have a reasonable knowledge of archaeology.

Some like to travel with a Tour Manager but to use local guides at each site. The length of time spent at a site may be just an hour or two and a general interest is expected from participants.

You and your group choose which style of archaeology tour you require.

We operate archaeological tours to the following destinations:-
Albania, Cambodia, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Thiopia, Greece, Greek Islands, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Laos, Lebanon, Libya, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Sri Lanka, Sicily, Syria, Thailand & Turkey & Vietnam.
 
A typical day...
After a leisurely breakfast we depart for this morning’s site. We will visit only two per day, allowing plenty of time at each site. On arrival at the site, an introductory talk in the shade, or a guided walk, brings alive the history, the stories. Then comes the all-important time to wander. (You decide how much time to allow for this, as you are designing the itinerary).

Lunch may be a picnic, a snack or a more substantial meal, depending on your choice, and the timings you have decided on for the day.

In the afternoon we will aim to visit a second site before driving on to, or returning to, the night stop for tonight. Here we will talk over the day, and perhaps listen to an evening talk from the Lecturer accompanying the group – if you have chosen to have one. Dinner then rounds off a stimulating day.

The itineraries below are intended only to give an indication of what might be possible in a particular country, following an itinerary catering for a particular special interest.

No details of meals or accommodation are included in the itineraries as it would be your decision, at the planning stage, as to what is included. You would decide whether your tour included all meals, just Bed and Breakfast, or Bed and Breakfast plus some lunches or dinners at certain points on the itinerary. Similarly you would decide what standard of accommodation you wanted to use.
 
The itineraries detailed are deliberately short ones. It is intended to give a flavour, an outline, of an itinerary.  If you have more time, then extra time can be built into each stop on the itinerary, and additional places of interest and overnight stops can be added. Lengthening the itinerary, to 10 days or two weeks, for example, and adding further night-stops will enrich your journey; shown below is just a brief skeletal itinerary as a basis for discussion and more detailed planning.
 
  • Egypt - 8 days - 1. Fly London - Cairo 2. In Cairo; visit sites. 3. Fly Cairo-Luxor; visit East Bank sites around Luxor. 4. Luxor; visit West Bank
    sites. 5. Drive to Aswan; visit sites. 6. Aswan; visit west bank. 7. Full day visit to Abu Simbel; fly Cairo. 8. Fly London.
  • Jordan - 8 days - 1. Fly London-Amman. 2. Visit Jerash; return to Amman. 3. Visit desert palaces; return to Amman. 4. Drive via Madaba and Kerak to Petra. 5 and 6. In Petra; visit site. 7 Drive via Wadi Rum to Aquaba. 8. Fly
    via Amman to London.
  • Thailand - 8 days 1. Fly Bangkok. 2. Arrive Bangkok; tour of klongs. 3. Fly to Chiangmai; visit Doi Sutep. 4-6. Three day ramble through tribal villages; return Chiangmai. 7. Fly Bangkok; depart for London. 8. Arrive London.
  • Turkey – 8 days: 1. Fly London – Istanbul. 2. Full day tour of Istanbul; drive Canakkale. 3. Visit Gallipoli and Troy; drive Bergama. 4. Visit Pergamum; drive to Selcuk. 5. Visit Ephesus, return to Selcuk. 6.Drive to and visit Didyma and Miletus, overnight Bodrum. 7.Sail to Knidos; visit site and return to Bodrum. 8. Fly via Istanbul to London.
  • Turkey – 8 days: 1. Fly Bodrum; board yacht at Akbuk. 2. Visit Ephesus then sail to Iassos. 3. Sail to Knidos and visit. 4. Sail to Loryma and visit site. 5. Sail to Ekincik for Dalyan river cruise to Caunus. 6. Sail to Fethiye and visit Lydae; overnight Gocek. 7. Visit Didyma and Miletus, overnight Bodrum. 8. Fly London.
  • Peru – 12 days 1. Fly Lima. 2.Arrive Lima. 3.Fly Trujillo. 4. Visit Chan Chan; drive to Chiclayo. 5. In Chiclayo; visit Sipan and Tucume. 6. return to Trujillo; fly Lima. 7. Fly Cusco.8. Visit Sacsayhuaman and city tour. 9. Train to Machu Picchu; visit site and overnight. 10. Visit site and return to Cusco 11. Fly Lima; depart for UK. 12. Arrive London.
  • Sri Lanka – 10 days 1. Fly Colombo. 2. Arrive Colombo; drive to Negombo 3. Drive to Anuradhapura, visit site. 4. Drive to Mihintale and visit site. 5. Drive to Polanuwara, visit site. 6. Drive to Kandy, visit temples. 7. Drive to Nurya Eliya and visit. 8. Drive to Kataragama 9. Drive to Colombo. 10. Fly to London.
  • Ethiopia 14 days - 1. Fly Addid Ababa. 2. Arrive Addis Ababa; city tour. 3. Drive to Kombolcha. 4 and 5. Drive to Lalibela. 6. In Lalibela; visit rock churches. 7.Drive to Gondar. 8. In Gondar. 9. Drive to Simien National Park. 10. Drive to Bahar Dar. 11. Visit Blue Nile Falls and Lake Tana; overnight Bahar Dar. 12. Fly Addis Ababa. 13. In Addis Ababa; depart for UK. 14. Arrive UK.
  • Mexico - 12 days - 1. Fly to Mexico City. 2. Mexico City tour and visit to Templo Mayor. 3. Visit Anthropological Museum and Pyramids of Teotihuacan. 4. Drive to Oaxaca, city tour and visit Santo Domingo Museum. 5. Visit Monte Alban and Mitla. 6. Fly to Villahermosa, visit La Venta Park, drive to Palenque. 7. Visit Palenque and drive to Campeche. 8. Drive to Merida, visit Cava and Uxmal. 9. Drive to Chichen Itza and visit site. 10. Drive to Cancun; visit Tulum and Xcaret Park. 11. Depart for London. 12. Arrive UK.
