Peru is a nation in three parts. The coastal aridity of its desert lands gives way, on travelling inland, to the majesty of the Andes; continuing East the peaks die away and the descent into the Amazon jungle-clad basin begins. Each area is different, and all three have their attractions.
The northern coastal region and the Andes both boast several world-class sites which attract many ARCHAEOLOGY groups eager to understand the complex past of this nation – the mixture of Spanish, Qechua and Aymara society is a potent one. In the Cordillera Blanca of the north and the Andes in the centre there are stunning possibilities for RAMBLING groups. With Spanish one of the major languages of the world, Peru makes an interesting destination for a LANGUAGE group, although the Spanish here is distinctively different to that of mainland Spain!
